“Fairness means equity. Dignity means agency.”

Too often, people are stripped of their right to make decisions, have their needs met, or be treated as equals. We want to create a society where everyone has the agency to shape their own life.

Why This Matters

Equity isn’t just about treating people the same. It’s about recognising differences and meeting needs so everyone has the same chance to thrive. But in many areas of life, equity and agency are missing:

  • Disabled people denied choices about their own care.

  • Marginalised groups excluded from decision-making tables.

  • Policies designed “for the majority,” leaving others voiceless.

  • Services built around control, not empowerment.

Without equity, people are left struggling to reach the same opportunities as others. Without agency, people lose control of their own lives.

How We’re Creating Change

At Living Reasons, we believe fairness means recognising and respecting difference. Our work on equity and agency focuses on creating systems where people are truly empowered.

We’re focusing on:

  • Campaigning for equity to be central to government and organisational policy.

  • Challenging systems that take decisions away from individuals.

  • Ensuring lived experience voices are at the heart of decision-making.

  • Promoting agency in healthcare, employment, education, and community life.

Using our allied business, Reasons Trading Limited, to model equity in practice.

Projects & Campaigns

  • Equity For All Project | researching barriers and creating pathways to fair treatment.

  • Agency In Action Campaign | amplifying lived experience stories where choice has been denied — and showing how it can be restored.

  • Inclusive Policy Lab | co-designing policy, training materials and development packages recommendations with the Advisory Board.

The Role of Lived Experience

Our Lived Experience Advisory Board is central to this work. Members bring insight into where equity is lacking, how agency has been undermined, and what needs to change to restore fairness.

Their guidance ensures our campaigns are not about assumptions — but about the lived reality of people in society today.
